The first sentence of Pride and Prejudice is the most famous first lines in the literature, this sentence points out the intention of the works. It is a purpose of many female to pursue " a single man in possession of a good fortune" in nineteen-century English society, but these women's selection are quite limited because of their birth and social class.
According to the contents, we know the Bennets is only a middle-class. Mrs.Bennet is a foolish and ignorant woman, she only thinks about marrying her daughters to wealthy young man and seems to care for nothing else in the world.
Elizabeth, one of Mrs.Bennet's daughters, sees the world critically and thinks that she is superior to her surroundings. In fact, the chapter 58 is a turning point in this works. When Elizabeth knew Darcy saved Lydia's good name, she feels very grateful to Darcy. At that time, a good name is very important for all especially a lady. Of course, she begin to change her attitude to Darcy. How does Darcy respond to her when she appreciates him? He replies that he did so only because Lydia is her sister, just as what Darcy said: " your family owe me nothing, I believe I thought only of you", then he tell Elizabeth that his feelings towards her have not changed.

Our teacher asked us to write a criticism/comment on some english works. I selected Pride and Prejudice (while mentioning a book title, when you have the possibility to use italic letters, then use italic effect, otherwise, use underline to emphasize the name of a book or an article), but I have only got Chapter 1 and Chapter 58, so I consulted some criticisms on internet (or just use "on the web") and wrote a few words. I have never read it perfectly.

The first sentence of Pride and Prejudice is the most famous one in the literature (did you want to say it's most famous in English Literature, or just in this book?), this sentence points out the intention of the works (I'll use "the theme of the book"). It was the dream of many ladies of nineteen-century English society to marry " a single man in possession of a good fortune", but these women's selection was quite limited because of their birth and social class. According to the book, we know the Bennets was only a middle-class family. Mrs. Bennet was a foolish and ignorant woman, she only thought about marrying her daughters to wealthy young men and seemed to care for nothing else in the world.

Elizabeth, the sceond daughter of Mrs. Bennet, saw the world with criticism and thought that she was superior to her surroundings. In fact, the chapter 58 is a turning point in this book. When Elizabeth knew Darcy had saved Lydia's reputation, she felt very grateful to Darcy. At that time, reputation was very important for all especially a lady. Of course, she began to change her attitude towards Darcy. How did Darcy respond to her when she appreciated him? He replied that he did so only because Lydia was her sister, just as what Darcy said: " your family owed me nothing, I believe I thought only of you", then he told Elizabeth that his feelings towards her had not changed.

Remember, you were asked to write a comment on this article, not a summary. And, pls remember, when you retell the story of a book, use past tenses, these are things happened before, not now. Also, pls re-read what I revised, I did was to follow the English writing style, not the way Chineses say.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books. I read its Chinese and English versions several times, and really loved it. If you'd like to know more about the story, I suggest you read first the Chinese version, it'll help you to understand when you switch to English version. The original book was very well written, with lots of clever sentences, a good example of English writing.
